Having a credit card is a great convenience, you can make big purchase without having to bring cash. you can even pay for it on a monthly installment at no interest. you can bring it with you when you travel, pay items you bought online and you can also borrow money from it for short term needs.
Your credit card can work for you or against you, depending on your spending habits.
Here are the Dos and Don'ts of Using Credit Cards.
Dos:
- Charge only what you can afford to pay.
- Make wise decisions about purchasing items you need versus those you simply want.
- Pay your credit card bill on time and as much as possible in full.
- Compare your bill when you receive it against your copies of sales slips for your purchases.
- Let your creditor know in advance if you won’t be able to make your monthly payment on time.
Don't
- Use your credit card to make everyday purchases. Items like food,
clothing, and gas shouldn't be purchased with a credit card. Using your
credit card as a substitute for cash is a habit that can quickly lead to debt.
- Get into the habit of making minimum-only payments. Making only the
minimum payment each month increases the amount of time it will take to
pay off your debt.
- Use your credit card to buy things you can’t afford.
- Close out a credit card without knowing how your credit will be impacted.
